Confessions of a Shopaholic

 In my single days, I always worried that my future in-laws wouldn't like me when I met them someday. I was afraid of this because i'm not a cute bubbly alabama girl and I'm not as socially adept as some girls, like jessica. I really hate that this worry has come to fruition now..  I like to be liked, especially by those whom i'll be stuck with forever.

 So, since I've had the success and blessing of getting a generous loan, I have been making a lot of wedding plans once again. I'm planning on a pretty tight budget here, so some things are not so easy to find. 

but i've found them, and in my budget. Good photographer for about 1200 dollars? check.  Gorgeous wedding cake for under 500 dollars? check. Wedding shoes? check. Pretty vintage cake topper? check. 

I'm also following promising leads on other items like a String Quartet, whom I'm waiting to hear a final availability for, and a florist, whom i emailed the wedding planner about. 

And, drumroll, I have an appointment at Neiman Marcus tomorrow to get my dress!  :-D  !!  Theyre having a Christos trunk show, so i'm really hoping they put the Christos gowns on sale a little too. That would be marvelous, since I'm buying it either way.

I'm so excited about all the vendors I've found. I'm getting spectacular deals with all of them, because my photographer and baker are both trying to start their own businesses, but they are both insanely talented! But because they haven't really gotten their feet wet yet, their prices are so low. So it's perfect. My wedding planner couldnt have done it better. She'll probably be annoyed that I booked these vendors without her and that i found them at such a low price. 

I also realized I need only half as many invitations as I was planning, since each person doesnt get a separate invitation-- duh! Don't know what i was thinking. 


So i'm pretty excited. This job thing has still got me depressed and stressed, but when i'm doing wedding stuff, i don't have to think about it. :)

I always say i don't have time to update my journal. So when I was sitting here, trying to kill the time til Tyler gets here, i thought of posting on here. 

I'm in a better mood than I had been the past few updates. I'm actually pretty excited about my secretive elopement. I'm eloping in Napa Valley, with Mimi and Best Man Jacob as witnesses. It is sure to be a fun affair, if not grand. I've always wanted to go to Napa, and it only seems appropriate for the wedding/honeymoon considering that wine is one of Tyler's and my big interests since our first date. I'm hoping for it to work out for December 5th, but we'll see. Sometimes I get sad when i think about a traditional wedding day, but overall, I think this will be a great wedding and a great story. ya know, "We decided to run off and elope in Napa."  Sounds better than Vegas i think. 

I hate that when I'm sleep-deprived, i start to feel depressed. It's like my body confuses the feelings. and even though i know that, i still just feel depressed. I'm hungry and tired and just ready for Tyler to get here. Don't know what we'll eat. But I sure want a hug. 

I miss mimi. and i miss my mom. and i miss jess. Those are my top people. haha. Jess (my sister) was texting me today about us opening up a cupcake shop. It sounded like a good idea, but we're not little rich heiresses who have 50k dollars to open a cupcake shop on a whim. And even if it was successful, we couldnt be well-off because of cupcakes, i don't think. Just one of her funny ideas. she should go into something more realistic and profitable, like wedding photography.  People will pay a load of money for wedding photographers, sometimes not even realizing they arent that good. 

Maybe we'll eat pancakes tonight. That sounds pretty good.

Stupid sleep-depression. 

Has LJ been weird for anyone else lately? My cursor tends to disappear when i'm writing an entry... anyway.

 Nobody in my family cares if i elope. Nobody in my family thinks it's sad that I've been dreaming and talking about my wedding for years and now i have to elope, despite the fact that all my sisters got to have their desired wedding. None of them care. In fact, they encourage me to. 
Tyler's mom will not be happy unless we have an open-invitation wedding with a potluck receptions.

I can't swallow tyler's mom's idea of happiness, so i guess i'm going to elope. I can't bear the thought of putting stress and money into a day that I won't be proud of. This kills me. I'm heartbroken and so disappointed. Nothing in my life ever works out how i expect it to. I feel like i must have done something very bad at some point for so many things to go badly in my life. This is the only big dream i had left. Everything else has been destroyed or let go of. And now here goes the last of my dreams... And it's still stressful thinking about the backlash from his mom. 

I've never hated my life more than i have in the past month.
except for maybe in high school-- but i'm pretty sure feelings of despair are more real and intense at this age. 

From The Corner of His Eye by Dean Koontz. It's a beautiful, honest, optimistic look at how our lives are all intertwined and affect others we will never know. It's suspenseful and riveting. There's a bit of sci-fi thrown in as well, since it's Koontz, but it's extremely well-rounded and I would recommend it to my mom, my best friend, my sisters, and anyone. It's tied for my favorite book ever with The Count of Monte Cristo-- which is coincidentally similar in many ways. But you would have to read them to find out how.

 Watched a stupid girly show today. everything was about romance and love and boyfriends and fiances. Made me sad. 

so now i'm listening to stupid girly songs. 

Sometimes TV in general makes me lonely, i guess. watching those fake interactions makes you want to have real interactions with people. blah. 


but it's been a good offday.  The weather was beautiful, which made me very happy. and i went to see a movie -- Push. i love sci-fi.  And i liked it. people often are more picky about them than i am. but sci-fi is just so much fun to me. Not to mention, Chris Evans is serious eye candy!!! Dakota Fanning wasn't bad either. she looked pretty cool.

man-- which leads me to my latest annoying obsession. a pet peeve really. i am so so tired of the itty bitty skinny skeletal actresses. i SWEAR it's worse than it used to be. but i watch tv and see people whos thighs are the same width as their (non-existent) calves and it disgusts me! Amanda Bynes was in the show I was just watching and that's all i could think about when i saw her. Exactly how much do you have to starve yourself to look like that? and she's supposed to be pretty? okay, she WOULD be, if she weighed more than 98 pounds. i'm sorry but those guys wouldnt be attracted to someone who if you took off her clothes, she would look ethiopian. nasty that people do that to themselves voluntarily. Seriously, i'd like to ask a guy (not tyler) how attractive he finds that. Because if you take a look at playboy or FHM, you don't see  no skeletons! gross. i really wish that trend would DIE, before the "starving artists" do.

So, yeah, I'm engaged! So weird and unexpected! I mean, i knew he was gonna propose eventually, i just didn't imagine I would be engaged before year's end. It's taken some getting-used-to, i must say. I think I'm still in disbelief.

Tyler and I went to the Dallas Arboretum (a botanical gardens sort of place) on Friday to explore and take some pictures together with his nice camera. We thought maybe we could use them for Christmas cards or something. So we found some romantic spots to take pictures. He would put it on a 10-second timer and then quickly come sit down for the picture. I found a really nice spot by a stream with a waterfall type thing and trees that were changing colors and I said we should take pictures there. So we took a good one and decided to do another for good measure. Except on the second one, he pushed the button and slowly walked toward me and I was like "c'mon what are you doing? hurry!" and he got down on one knee and pulled a ring out. I was in such a state of shock. i kept saying "are you serious! is this real!" and everything was so surreal. So we got a picture of him proposing and the look on my face. It was very romantic :) sigh

Oh, and my ring is gorgeous! PERFECT! It is my dream ring. no kidding. It was designed for me and it fits perfectly. There was a whole ordeal behind that one so that Tyler didn't get the ring until the last minute-- he picked it up the morning before he proposed!

I want to start wedding planning now but I can only do stuff right now that doesn't cost money because there's been a little bump in the road as far as funding and i pretty much have to pay for the whole thing myself. Our hopeful date is April 10, 2010.  10 is an important number to us because we met on June 10th, We had our first date on August 10th, and my parents' anniversary was on Feb. 10th. I like that theres a significance. and i've always wanted to get married in April so that's why it's April.

So that's the story for now! It's really weird that I'm allowed to look at wedding stuff and it's perfectly cool. hahaha.

 First of all, let me just say that I am obsessed with my new Duffy cd. Sooo addictive. just wish there was more than 10 songs on it!

Finally, since graduating in December, I have a real job!  I thought about it a lot and talked to a lot of people, including my pastor, and made a decision. I got an official job offer yesterday to train as a General Manager for a large movie chain and I happily took it! I'll be moving to Texas in late August to start the 6 month training process. 
I have a lot to do and i don't even know where to start. I don't have my own computer and I need to buy suits (which are expensive!). Not sure yet what all I need to pack but I'm getting a "welcome packet" thing from the company so hopefully it will answer a lot of my questions about that. I'll be living in corporate housing rent-free during training, then I will be transferred to a theatre somewhere in the US to be a GM. Pretty cool. My life might be getting interesting... 


Also, yesterday I went to my 5-months pregnant sister Jessica's ultrasound and we found out she's having a girl! To understand how exciting this is, you have to know that my other two sisters have 4 boys between them and NO girls. This is Jess's first. We're so excited to buy clothes for a little girl! I bought some yesterday already! hehe

Anyway, changes up ahead. It's scary but exciting. I've never lived outside of Alabama. I'm looking forward to living in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

usually. unless its a girl i don't know that i have a feeling is catty

yeah, 18 stitches on my eyebrow when i was like 4 or 5. the scar leaves me with half an eyebrow. wondaful.

oh yeah! but one time it was for tardies. i'm very proud :) haha
